Outreach and Mission

Local Outreach

  • Samaritan Fund--a cooperative ministry between St. Luke and First Presbyterian Church. It assists persons with partial payment on utility bills, transportation, and some pharmacy bills and is open Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. 706-327-4958, 1024 Second Avenue.
  • Food Pantry--This ministry assists needy Georgia families with staple goods. The director is Wayne Cartledge, 706 571-6064. It takes 20 families a day, first come, first served. Mondays @ 1:00 p.m, Wednesdays @ 9:30 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., Fridays @ 1:00 p.m. 1024 Second Avenue.
  • Open Door Community House--a mission agency of the United Methodist Church.
  • BRIDGE: Building Responsible Adults through Discipline, Guidance, and Education is St. Luke's ministry to at-risk young adults between the ages of 18-25 years old. Retired Sgt. Major Willie Coleman capably administers this program which prepares these young adults for their Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED) and equips them with job and crucial social skills. 706-322-6433, 1024 Second Avenue.
  • Meals on Wheels delivers hot lunches to needy persons five days a week. To volunteer or for information, contact Julie Widener.
  • First Saturday--a casual worship service followed by a hot meal offered at 10:30 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month. This ministry reaches about 75 folks who are in the geographic area of St. Luke and are "down on their luck." To volunteer, contact John House.
  • December First Saturday: This once-a-year ministry offers a worship service, hot Southern-style breakfast, new shoes, a warm new sweatshirt, and new toys for children.
  • Valley Interfaith Promise--St. Luke's next commitment with this ministry will be the week of December 16-23. For information, click here.
  • Open Door Community House: a non-profit agency offering a wide range of educational, recreational, social and support services empowering low to moderate income persons of all ages. 2405 Second Avenue; Columbus, Georgia 31901-1023; (706) 323-5518
  • Mercy Med of Columbus is a primary care clinic that cares for everyone that walks through its doors. Volunteer here.
