Renovation/Repair Updates
St. Luke has undergone many physical changes over the years, from the old sanctuary (pictured to the right in black and white) to the current extensive renovation and repair (slide show at right). Follow this site or St. Luke's facebook page for current pictures of our progress. Below is the most recent update from Gene Cone, the Church Chief Administrative Officer. Following that is a report from our Senior Pastor, Robert Beckum.
Renovations and Restoration Update
The work on the 18 roofs of the main Church building and the 5 roofs of the Early Learning Center is progressing well. All of the main Church building’s new slate roofs, such as the Sanctuary, Turner Chapel and the Preschool wing have been completed, expect for the finish work. The majority of the flat roofs are well on their way to completion. All of the main Church building’s roofs are targeted to be completed by the end of May. Good progress is being made on the replacement or repair of the 5 flat roofs on the Early Learning Center. Completion of the ELC roofs is anticipated by the end of May. We will be reviewing bids for work on the Church steeple and making an award for work this month.
The waterproofing phase of the roofs and building sides on the main Church building and the ELC has been awarded and the work will start after all the roof work has been completed. This last stage of waterproofing will ensure all of the buildings are water tight and protected from the weather.
The stained glass windows repair for the Sanctuary and Turner Chapel contract has been awarded and the work will start in late July or early August. This work should take four or five weeks to complete. The work on restoring the outside doors for the entire main Church building has been awarded and the work has started. The work on the doors will take two to three months to restore the doors to their original beauty. The work on the windows in the main Church building is being reviewed and we expect to have a decision on the approach at our next R&R committee meeting.
During the summer, work will shift inside, where painting, carpeting, ceiling tiles and new lighting will begin in the classrooms, hallways, offices and other common areas of the Church. The interior committee has been hard at work on selecting the best and most attractive products for the interior or the main Church building. The selections for the interior will be presented for approval at the next R&R committee meeting. The contracts for this work should be awarded in the next couple of weeks.
An engineering firm has been engaged to review the HVAC needs of the Sanctuary and Turner Chapel and develop the specifications for bidding out the work. We expect to have a decision on the HVAC work and be able to bid the work and make an award in May or early June.
God continues to bless us with faithful and generous congregation, an excellent R&R committee, a great General Contractor, reliable and high quality sub-contractors and safety for all of the workers. We are so thankful for the patience and support of all of the members of the Church, staff, children and parents who are living with the inconveniences of the needed improvements to St. Luke. Report from the Pastor
At the beginning of the Capital Campaign, we made a commitment to emerge from the project debt free and complete all of the needed renovations and restoration needed at St. Luke Church. We are happy to report that God continues to bless St. Luke Church, through our faithful and generous congregation and all outstanding debt has been repaid and St. Luke Church is now 100% debt free!! This early payment of the debt has saved the church tens of thousands of dollars, versus waiting until the end of the campaign to pay off the debt.
We have received a large amount of prepaid pledges and continue to receive pledge payments each week, which helps us continue to meet the cash needs of the renovations and restoration projects. The pledge prepayments and weekly receipts continue to build back our cash position. We will endeavor to schedule the needed renovations to use the cash that will be available in the Capital Campaign account, as pledge payments are received.
